Washing your Parrot Pants knitted wool nappy cover

Your Parrot Pants knitted wool nappy cover will come to you pre-washed and lanolised with Sheepish Grins Liquid Lanolin. The lanolin contained in wool neutralises urine, so your wool nappy cover will only need to be washed every 2 to 4 weeks, unless it becomes dirty in the meantime or starts to smell. Simply air between wears.

Please LUKEWARM hand wash only inside out with an accredited wool wash. To minimise the chance of colour run and colour migration, I use and recommend Sheepish Grins Foaming Wool Wash. In my experience, the use of commercial wool washes increases the chances of colour run. Rinse and gently squeeze to remove any excess moisture. It may also be rolled up in a towel to remove excess moisture. Lie flat to dry out of direct sunlight, which may cause colour fade.

PLEASE DON’T MACHINE WASH OR TUMBLE DRY YOUR PARROT PANTS WOOL NAPPY COVER!

I make every effort to ensure that dyes are adequately fixed, however it is normal for a small amount of dye to come out when washing, especially with bright or dark colours, so I recommend that you wash your Parrot Pants wool nappy cover separately.

Lanolising your Parrot Pants knitted wool nappy cover

Your Parrot Pants wool nappy cover will need to be lanolised when it either stops repelling moisture or starts to become smelly, usually every 6 to 8 weeks. There are several lanolising products available; my favourites are Sheepish Grins Liquid Lanolin and Lansinoh.

To lanolise using Sheepish Grins Liquid Lanolin, add 1 teaspoon of lanolin to warm water and mix. Add your wool nappy cover to the mix (it may be wet or dry and should be turned inside out) and allow it to soak for 30 minutes. Remove nappy cover and do not rinse. Dry as above and your Parrot Pants wool nappy cover is ready to wear.

To lanolise using Lansinoh, melt a pea sized amount of Lansinoh in a tub of hot water along with a touch of wool wash and mix to disperse. Add cold water to the mix until it is lukewarm and soak your Parrot Pants wool nappy cover in it (again, it may be wet or dry and should be turned inside out) for 30 minutes. Remove nappy cover and do not rinse. Dry as above.

Caring for your Parrot Pants hand knit clothing

Please LUKEWARM hand wash (or machine wash where appropriate) with an accredited wool wash. Rinse and gently squeeze to remove any excess moisture. Clothing may also be rolled up in a towel to remove excess moisture. If washing by machine, items may be spun at the lowest possible speed, approximately 800rpm. Lie flat to dry out of direct sunlight, which may cause colour fade.

I make every effort to ensure that dyes are adequately fixed, however it is normal for a small amount of dye to come out when washing, especially with bright or dark colours, so I recommend that you wash your Parrot Pants hand knits separately.
